Razorbacks Hold On To Rain-Soaked Lead

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – The top-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team didn’t let rainy conditions and an hour-plus delay derail them as they maintained their position on top of the leaderboard after second round action at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, on Monday.

Teams were pulled off the course at 2:53 p.m. for a lightening delay with the Razorbacks holding on to a four-stroke lead over Stanford who was charging up the leaderboard.

Play resumed after an hour and 24 minute delay and the Razorbacks hung on to the lead for the fifth consecutive round of the season posting a 6-under 282. They are in the clubhouse with a 570 (288-282), leading No. 26 Texas and No. 16 Stanford who are tied for second. The Longhorns posted a 14-under 274 moving up four spots with a two-round 574.

Razorback newcomer Dylan Kim paced Arkansas with a 4-under 68 in a round that featured six birdies and a strong finish playing the final four holes even despite the tough conditions. It is the third of five rounds that Kim has posted in the 60’s this season.

Junior Maria Fassi and senior Alana Uriell added rounds of 2-under 70 with Fassi continuing to flirt with the top spot standing tied for second at 140 (70-70). Uriell (71-70) and Kim are tied for fifth place overall at 141.

Junior Cara Gorlei counted her second consecutive 74 and is tied for 28th overall at 148 (74-74) and junior Kaylee Benton rounds out the Razorback scoring at 154 (76-78). Benton is 46th overall.

From Shauna Taylor
“Obviously it was a crazy day. I’m very proud of our group. It was a solid, solid effort. Dylan (Kim) got off to a great start today and played to 4-under. Maria (Fassi) and Alana (Uriell) again, another solid day. I know they wish a couple more putts had fallen but, like I told them, stay patient and focus on the process. That is when they play their best golf and that happened today. The weather has been crazy and it’s supposed to be pretty bad tonight but we are excited about the position we are in. It’s about putting yourself in place to give yourself a chance to accomplish the goal and that’s right where we are. We have a very good game plan in place and I’m looking forward to getting out there and reaching our goals.”
