Razorbacks Host Doubleheader At Dills

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark – The Arkansas men’s tennis team continues its three-day, seven-match home stand with a doubleheader on Saturday at the Dills Indoor Courts. Arkansas (2-5) will begin play against Lamar (3-3) at 10 a.m., and the second match against UMKC (4-0) will follow at 3 p.m.

Arkansas opened the home stand with a 5-2 loss to No. 13 Oklahoma. The Razorbacks won the double points and Jose Salazar rallied to win in a third-set tiebreaker to defeat No. 18 Spencer Papa at No. 2 singles, but the Sooners won the other five singles matches for the win.

Mike Redlicki (No. 6) and Jose Salazar (No. 22) remain in the top 25 in the latest Oracle/ITA national singles rankings. Arkansas is the only team in the SEC and one of three teams in the nation, along with Ohio State and Wake Forest, with two players ranked in the top 25.

Salazar leads the team in singles and doubles wins, with a 4-2 record in singles play and a 5-2 record in doubles play, including a 3-1 doubles record with Redlicki.

“Lamar won a match in the National Indoor Kick-Off Weekend,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “They will come in here with a lot of confidence and expect to win the match. We will have to play better and coach better to have success Saturday.”

Lamar enters the weekend with a 3-3 record, highlighted by a 4-2 win over Boise State on the first day of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles. Two of their three losses came against ranked teams in No. 7 UCLA and No. 13 Baylor. Lamar won the Southland Conference regular-season and tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.

UMKC is off to a 4-0 start, including a neutral-site win over Montana State and road win at Air Force. The Kangaroos tied a school record with 17 wins and were the WAC regular-season co-champion last season.

Arkansas concludes the three-day, seven-match home stand with four matches against Jackson State on Feb. 18.
