Razorbacks Host LSU In Sunday Matchup

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team wraps up a two-game home stand to begin its SEC home slate hosting LSU on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena.

For the second straight game, the Razorbacks (11-4, 0-2 SEC) rallied late, pulling to within two with just over four minutes to play against No. 4 Mississippi State, before falling to the Bulldogs 59-51. Arkansas held Mississippi State to its second-lowest scoring output of the season, forcing 18 turnovers and holding the Bulldogs to 36.5 percent shooting.

Malica Monk returned to the starting lineup and led all scorers with 17 points. She was 8-of-9 from the free-throw line and scored in double figures for the eighth time in 12 games this season. Jessica Jackson scored all 12 of her points in the second half, giving her 15 straight games in double figures to begin the season.

As a team, Arkansas ranks fourth in the SEC and 29th in the nation in scoring defense, holding opponents to 56.3 points per game. The Razorbacks also rank in the top half of the SEC in field-goal percentage defense (.361) and three-point field-goal percentage defense (.279).

LSU (12-3, 1-1 SEC) is coming off its first SEC win of the season, defeating Florida 78-67 on Thursday night. Chloe Jackson scored a career-high 34 points, while Raigyn Moncrief recorded a double-double of 20 points and 10 steals, tying the school record for steals in a game. As a team, the Lady Tigers scored 36 points off 28 turnovers.

The Opponent
Arkansas has won the last four meetings, including each of the last two meetings played in both Fayetteville and Baton Rouge, but LSU leads the all-time series 29-16, including a 12-9 record in Fayetteville.

Arkansas won the only meeting between the two teams last season, defeating LSU 48-44 in Baton Rouge. The 44 points allowed were the lowest scoring output by an SEC opponent and the second-lowest by any opponent this past season for Arkansas. The two teams will also meet in Baton Rouge on Jan. 29.

Coming off a 13th-place finish in the SEC standings this past season and picked to finish 12th in the SEC preseason coaches’ poll, LSU is 12-3 overall and 1-1 in SEC play. The Lady Tigers began SEC play with a 74-48 loss at Mississippi State and a 78-67 win over Florida.

LSU leads the SEC and ranks second in the nation in steals (14.0 steals per game) and also ranks third in the SEC and 12th in the nation in turnovers forced (22.7 turnovers per game). Raigyne Moncrief leads the SEC and ranks 12th in the nation in steal, averaging 3.4 steals per game.

Moncrief also leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game. Chloe Jackson joins her in double figures, averaging 13.5 points per game. She also ranks fifth in the SEC in steals, averaging 2.3 steals per game.

• Arkansas is 27-12 in home games under head coach Jimmy Dykes. That mark includes an 8-2 record this season and a 10-7 record in conference home games.
• Arkansas held Mississippi State to 59 points, its second-lowest scoring output of the season, and 36.5 percent shooting from the floor and 18.2 percent shooting from 3-point range, both of which are its second-lowest shooting percentages of the season.
• Malica Monk scored in double figures for the eighth time in 12 games, finishing with a team-high 17 points against Mississippi State. It was one-point shy of tying her career high.
• Jessica Jackson has scored in double figures in each of the first 15 games, finishing with 12 points against Mississippi State. She leads the teams and ranks third in the SEC in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game.
• Arkansas has won the rebounding battle in 11 of the 15 games this season, going 10-1 in those games and improving to 33-8 when winning the rebounding battle under head coach Jimmy Dykes.

• Arkansas finished with an 11-2 nonconference regular-season record, the best under head coach Jimmy Dykes and the best since a 13-0 record during the 2013-14 season.

Looking Ahead
Arkansas returns to the road, traveling to Texas A&M (Jan. 12) and Alabama (Jan. 15) for back-to-back road games next week. The Razorbacks return home on Jan. 19 for a matchup with Vanderbilt.

Other future home games include Missouri (Jan. 23), Georgia (Feb. 2), No. 5 South Carolina (Feb. 5), No. 24 Kentucky (Feb. 16) and Auburn (Feb. 26).
