Razorbacks In Eighth Place At NCAA Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – The wind picked up on Tuesday at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, as the Arkansas men’s golf team fired a 13-over 301 and sits in eighth place after two rounds of play at the University Club.

The Razorbacks went off on No. 10 for the second straight day and played a solid back nine, making the turn at 3-over as four of the five players birdied the par five 17th hole. The turn to the front side yielded high scores again for Arkansas, shooting 10-over on the second nine and ending the day with 16 birdies and 23 bogeys.

Arkansas enters the final round at 24-over for the tournament and 11 shots off the cut line as the top five teams advance to the NCAA championship later this month at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Host LSU leads the field at 4-under, while Duke (+3), Virginia (+4), Northwestern (+12), and Oregon/Kentucky (+13) round out the top five.

Junior Alvaro Ortiz and freshman Luis Garza led the team with identical 2-over 74’s, as both players finished 1-over on each side. Ortiz tallied four birdies and is T-27th overall at 76-74 – 150 (+6), while Garza has also carded rounds of 76-74 – 150 (+6).

Sophomore Charles Kim leads the team for the week in 26th place overall. He recorded a 3-over 75 on Tuesday and has rounds of 74-75 – 149 (+5). Freshmen Mason Overstreet and William Buhl both signed for 6-over 76’s.

Arkansas will tee off in the final round of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m., playing with Jacksonville and Georgia State.
