LOS CABOS, Mexico – Paced by a four-under 67 from senior Taylor Moore, the No. 28 Arkansas men’s golf team is in ninth place after a seven-over 291 in the opening round of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate at the par 71 Los Cabos Querencia.

In a loaded field that features 12 ranked teams, Arkansas (+7) is a shot clear of No. 21 Houston and Ole Miss and two shots ahead of No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 15 Vanderbilt. South Florida, ranked No. 30 in the country, is in the lead after an opening round 10-under 274. No. 34 Baylor (-9), No. 14 California (-3), No. 11 Georgia (-3) and No. 3 Florida State (E) round out the top five.

Moore picked up right where he left off after his first collegiate victory a week ago, going three-under after four holes with a birdie and an eagle to find himself atop the leaderboard early. He went on to shoot two-under on each side and record five birdies and one eagle. His four-under 67 was his third straight round under par as he sits one shot off the pace and tied for second. Rice’s Mario Carmona is the first round leader at five-under.

Nicolas Echavarria is tied for 25th overall after an even-par 71 in the opening round. He started his day at three-over through three holes, but bounced back with four birdies over the next nine holes to finish at even par or better for his third consecutive round.

Kolton Crawford recorded a birdie on the par five ninth, his second hole of the day, but added four bogeys to finish with a three-over 74 and in a tie for 48th overall. He has contributed a counting score in 14 straight rounds this year.

Alvaro Ortiz finished tied for second on the team with four birdies, but a pair of triple bogeys sent him to an eight-over 79 and a tie for 69th. Charles Kim rounded out the team with an 11-over 82.
