FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The new Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Rankings were released on Tuesday afternoon and Arkansas climbed two spots to No. 20 and received 504 votes. The Hogs had started the season off at No. 22 when the first rankings were posted on Jan. 11.
“It’s flattering that a national committee of voters has ranked us that high,” Arkansas head coach Robert Cox said. “I contribute a lot of that to our reputation and it’s good that we’re viewed as one of the top programs in the nation. We’ve only played one dual match this year, so the guys are ready to get out there and play, because we will be tested early.”
UA is one of nine Southeastern Conference teams found in the top 25. Florida is near the top at No. 3, while Georgia is close behind in fourth. Ole Miss is sixth and LSU and Kentucky are 12th and 13th, respectively. Vanderbilt was put at the 19th position, while Auburn and Tennessee follow at No. 21 and No. 22, respectively.
The Razorbacks will go on the road this weekend to take on Army at West Point, N.Y., on Feb. 5. Their next home match is scheduled for Feb. 8, when the Oklahoma Sooners come to Fayetteville, Ark., in a key regional competition.
