Razorbacks Play In Big 12/SEC Challenge

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The road-tested University of Arkansas women’s basketball team travels to Lawrence, Kansas, facing Kansas on Sunday as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Mike Neighbors and the Razorbacks (5-2) played four in a row away from Bud Walton Arena. They returned on Wednesday picking up a win over Abilene Christian and now must pack their bags again for this conference challenge.

The game tips at 2 p.m., from Allen Fieldhouse and airs live on ESPN3.

Scouting Arkansas
Malica Monk and Devin Cosper continue to lead the Razorbacks both in scoring and in ball-handling. Both players have scored in double figures in all seven games this year and their leadership has helped the Razorbacks rank second in the nation in fewest turnovers per game. Monk also leads the Southeastern Conference with 2.6 steals per game while Cosper leads the league with 3.6 made 3-pointers per game.

Junior Bailey Zimmerman is being relied upon to be a perimeter defensive stopper and has defended well from beyond the arc. Jailyn Mason’s point production is up from this time last season and she is also taking good care of the basketball for Arkansas.

Arkansas has participated in the Big 12/SEC Challenge for three years with a 2-1 record. The Razorbacks defeated Oklahoma in North Little Rock in the inaugural challenge and fell to #5 Texas in Oklahoma City the following year. The tournament expanded to include more teams last year and Arkansas defeated Texas Tech in Bud Walton Arena.

Scouting Kansas
The Jayhawks (6-0) are playing its seventh consecutive game at home. Kylee Kopaitch paces the team with 17.8 points per game. Christalah Lyons (16.0) and Bianna Osorio (11.5) also average double figures.

Kansas ranks first in the Big 12 and fourth in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense holding opponents to 31.3% shooting. They also lead the conference in scoring defense and rank second in 3-point defense as well as 3-point field goals made.

About the Big 12/SEC Challenge
The Big 12/SEC Challenge features every team from the Big 12 against 10 squads from the SEC. This is the second season in which 10 games will be played. The format consists of five home games on campus sites for each conference. Half of the contests feature at least one team that was ranked in the final 2016-17 USA Today coaches’ poll. In 2016, the SEC edged the Big 12, 6-4, in the first 10-game slate.
