Razorbacks Post Solid Showing On Day 1 At Husky Invite

SEATTLE — The Arkansas women’s tennis team turned in several strong performances on the first day of competition Friday at the Husky Invite held at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the University of Washington’s campus, combining for six wins in singles and doubles action.

“I’m very pleased with the level we competed at today,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “In both singles and doubles, we did many promising things. This weekend is critical for our competitive growth.”

In doubles against Washington, Arkansas freshman Tatum Rice and sophomore Jackie Carr posted a 6-0 win over Stacey Fung and Angela Li. Junior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Giulia Pairone defeated Lana Slavic and Alexis Prokopuik, 6-1. Against Portland, Oparenovic and Pairone beat Emily Soares and Anna Oberg, 6-1, while sophomore Natsuho Arakawa and junior Agne Cepelyte earned a 6-4 victory over Radina Dimitrova and Lourdes Ramalle.

In singles against Oregon, No. 100 Pairone bested Daniela Nasser, 6-1, 6-4, while No. 36 Oparenovic rallied to beat Shweta Sangwan, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

The Razorbacks will return to action for Day 2 of competition Saturday.
