FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ trio of nationally ranked juniors Rohan Gajjar, Matt Roberts and Adrians Zguns swept their singles’ matches, but the Razorbacks could not overcome No. 56 Michigan’s State strong doubles’ showing as the Spartans edged the Razorbacks, 4-3, at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The loss drops the 19th-ranked Hogs to 2-3 on the season, with all three losses coming to ranked opponents. MSU improved to 7-2.
No. 56 Zguns won his second straight match over a ranked player with his straight-set victory over No. 102 Andrew Formanczyk, 7-5, 6-0, on the No. 1 singles’ court. 77th-ranked Gajjar outlasted the Spartans’ Cameron Marshall in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, at No. 2. Roberts, the nation’s 121st-ranked player, defeated Nick Rinks, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the No. 3 slot.
