Razorbacks Represent On ANNIKA Award Watch List
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Three University of Arkansas women’s golfers earned selection to the sixth edition of the ANNIKA Award Watch List announced today by the ANNIKA Foundation.
The ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M honors the player of the year in women’s college golf, as selected by college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media. The watch list expands this week to 15 women’s collegiate players and is scheduled to be released every two weeks this spring.
Razorback junior Maria Fassi headlines the Arkansas representation in the No. 2 spot this week. Fassi has been on the list each week, ranking as high as No. 1 in the Oct. 12 release.
Fassi is in the midst of a record-setting season. The Hidalgo, Mexico, native became just the second player in Razorback history to win four or more events in a single season with her victory at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate last weekend. She leads the team with a 69.67 stroke average and was selected as the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Junior Dylan Kim and senior Alana Uriell are listed in “The Next 5” and rank 13th and 15th, respectively. Kim has ranked as high as No. 8 while Uriell held the No. 5 spot for two consecutive weeks.
Kim is second on the team with a 71.17 stroke average followed by Uriell at 72.22. Kim has four top-5 finishes this season and Uriell has been in the top-5 three times with a runner-up finish at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in the fall.
The trio have paced the Razorbacks to the team’s current No. 3 ranking in both the Golfstat.com and Golfweek.com collegiate polls. Arkansas has won four of the team’s six events this season with a runner-up finish and a fourth-place showing in the other two tournaments.
Arkansas begins the home stretch of the season next week at the Evans-Derby Experience on March 18-20 in Auburn, Alabama. The team travels to the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on April 13-15, and begins postseason play at the SEC Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama, April 18-22 at Greystone Golf and Country Club.
