Razorbacks Set Academic Records

FAYETEVILLE, Ark. – On the strength of its 15th consecutive semester with a department GPA over 3.0, University of Arkansas student-athletes now hold a record-breaking cumulative GPA of 3.25. The cumulative GPA of 3.25 is the highest in athletics history.

“Thanks to the commitment and dedication of our more than 460 student-athletes, our program has proven once again that outstanding academic and athletics achievement can go hand in hand,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “The young men and women who compete for the University of Arkansas in 19 varsity sports also compete in the classroom on their way to a college degree. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes on our record-breaking GPA. With the support of our coaches, academic and support staff, campus community and all Razorback Foundation members, Razorback Athletics will continue to meet our mission of developing student-athletes to their fullest potential through intercollegiate athletics.”

A total of 298 Razorbacks – 68 percent – earned a spot on the honor roll after earning a spring GPA of 3.0 or better, a mark that improved by 13 from the fall semester. For the second straight spring, a record number of student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 term GPA, as 72 Razorbacks accomplished the feat. The 72 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA is a 20 percent improvement from the fall and breaks the record of 70 set last spring.

The record-breaking 3.25 cumulative GPA was also made possible thanks to 179 student-athletes achieving their highest term GPA in the spring. The impressive 179 career bests is a 60 percent improvement over the 112 who earned a personal-best in the fall.

The reigning four-time SEC champion women’s cross country program turned in a 3.54 spring GPA to lead all women’s sports while men’s golf topped the men’s side with a GPA of 3.47. In all, 15 programs earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better following the spring 2016 semester.

Earlier this month, 73 Razorback student-athletes were eligible to participate in spring commencement ceremonies. Following the upcoming summer sessions and all requirements are completed, the number of student-athlete graduates for the year will reach 100. The University of Arkansas exceeds the benchmark Academic Progress Rate (APR) multiyear rate of 930 in all 19 of its intercollegiate sport programs for the fifth consecutive year.
