Razorbacks Set For Tiger Classic On Thursday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 29 Arkansas men’s golf team has added a one-day event to the schedule and will participate in the Tiger Classic hosted by LSU on Thursday, April 13 at the University Club in Baton Rouge.

The one-day 36-hole tournament will be the team’s final tune-up before postseason play begins on April 21-24 in the SEC Championship at Sea Island Golf Club. The field features seven teams, with three nationally ranked programs from SEC, including No. 7 LSU and No. 14 Texas A&M.

The Tiger Classic will be Arkansas’ 12th tournament of the year and the seventh of the spring season. The Razorbacks have multiple team victories for the fifth time in the last seven years and are looking for a third title for the first time in five seasons.

Junior Alvaro Ortiz will lead the way at the top of the lineup with a 71.4 stroke average and seven top 20 finishes, including four of those in the top five. He has nine rounds in the 60’s this season and has provided a counting score in 12 consecutive rounds.

Freshman Luis Garza assumes his familiar role at the No. 2 position, entering Thursday’s competition with a 71.9 stroke average, the seventh-best in the SEC among rookies. He has a team-best eight top-20 finishes and posted his round of the year with a 5-under 65 at the SunTrust Gator Invitational to help lead Arkansas to the team victory.

Head coach Brad McMakin’s freshman-heavy team will fill out the rest of the lineup as Mason Overstreet, William Buhl and Dylan Naidoo will round out the travel squad to Baton Rouge. The Razorbacks will tee off at 8 a.m. with LSU and Texas A&M.
