Razorbacks Set School Record of 38-Under Par a

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii – Arkansas men’s golf team set a school record of 38-under par for a 54-hole tournament on Friday to finish fifth at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Village Course.
The Razorbacks fired a 12-under 276 on the par-72, 6,814-yard layout in the third and final round. Arkansas finished with a three-round total of 826. Second-ranked Oklahoma State won the team title with an 801, while second-place Georgia Tech shot an 808 and third-place Southern California carded an 810. Washington was fourth with team total of 816.
“I’m very happy with the way we started the spring season,” Arkansas Head Coach Mike Ketcham said. “It is exciting to see this group break the school record by six strokes. This team is continuing to improve each and every tournament.”
Eric Shriver, a true freshman out of Cary, N.C., turned in his third consecutive round in the 60s on Friday with a 5-under par 67. He finished in a tie for 15th with a three-round total of 204 (12-under par). Shriver was just nine strokes off the pace of medallist Tyler Leon of Oklahoma State.
“I am especially proud of Eric Shriver,” Ketcham said. “He had an outstanding tournament and finished it off today with a 67. He hit all 18 greens in regulation and could have went really low if he would have putted a little better.”
Sophomore Matt Bortis and junior Josh Farrell finished the Taylor Made Intercollegiate in a tie for 32nd place with identical scores of 208. Bortis fired a 1-under par 71 on Friday, while Farrell had a strong final-round performance of 4-under par 68.
Scotty Campbell shot a 210 for the event to finish in a tie for 42nd and Will Osborne posted a three-round total of 815.
The Razorbacks spent the week firing for the flag, finishing in a tie with tournament champion Oklahoma State for the most birdies (77) over the three-day event.
“We tied with Oklahoma State for the most birdies in the entire tournament with 77,” Ketcham said. “We just made too many bogeys and double bogeys. It is exciting to me to see that we are that capable of putting up low numbers. Now we just have to eliminate the mistakes.
Next up on the slate for Arkansas is the Mercedes Benz Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., on Feb. 19-22.
