FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ soccer team picked up its second win of the spring exhibiton season over the weekend, downing a group of former Razorbacks 3-0 in the annual Alumni Game at Razorback field.
The Razorbacks are 2-2 this spring with a win over Tulsa and losses to Oral Roberts and national power Oklahoma State.
Against the alumni, Arkansas got goals from junior forward Yvonne DesJarlais, junior midfielder Jessie Givens and sophomore midfielder Beth Stratton.
“It was a great weekend to reconnect with some of our alumni,” head coach Colby Hale says. “We had close to 30 who came back and we hope to grow the event in the future. It was good for our current players to be around them and we want them to stay involved in the program. The game was a good test for us and we got some things accomplished.”
Stratton was second on the team in the fall with three goals and six points, and had a .467 shots on goal percentage.
As a freshman, DesJarlais had a .700 shots on goal percentage and scored one goal. Givens has played in 44 games with 20 starts in her first two seasons.
The Razorbacks continue their spring season this week with Saturday’s 1 p.m. contest at Oklahoma. The teams played a fall exhibition game in Fayetteville with the Sooners claiming a 3-2 win in overtime.
“OU will be another good quality test,” Hale says. “Every step along the way we are looking for some answers in finding out who we are and how we will win games in the fall. It has been a good spring and we are proud of everyone for their work in training and in the weight room. We have asked a lot of them and they have responded well.”
