Razorbacks Travel to Louisiana for Final Fall
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorbacks will look for a strong finish this week as they conclude their fall campaign at the University Club Intercollegiate in Baton Rouge, La. The formerly named Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate changed its name after the tournament was moved to the par 72, 7,274-yard University Club Golf Course.
“I believe our team made huge strides between the second and third tournaments and based on the practices we’ve had they are ready for this weekend,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “In the past we have done well at this tournament, but they have changed the course this year. From what we have heard it is a wide open course and there’s not a lot of trouble on the greens, so we need to do very well in our putting game.”
Junior Josh Farrell, sophomore Matt Bortis, redshirt freshman Scotty Campbell and true freshmen Will Osborne and Jason Turner will represent UA. They will have a challenge as they go up against golfers from 13 other schools including No. 28 Alabama, UAB, No. 1 Auburn, Baylor, College of Charleston, No. 23 Georgia Southern, Kent State, LSU, No. 32 Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Florida, SMU and Tulane.
After redshirting last year Farrell will compete for the first time since the 2003 NCAA Championships. Bortis has been the team’s top finisher in two of the three tournaments he has played and has the top stroke average of 74.4.
Osborne and Campbell have also played in all three fall tournaments. The duo comprised of UA’s top two men two weeks ago at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate and they will be looking for more excellent performances in Louisiana. The University Club Intercollegiate is Turner’s second tourney after he played at the fall opener, the Notre Dame Invitational.
The Hogs will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 will be contested on Tuesday. Arkansas will open its spring campaign with the TaylorMade Intercollegiate in Kona, Hawaii on Feb. 9-11.
