FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With a roster that boasts a combined 29 career top 10s and four players that have NCAA Championships experience, University of Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin continued to bolster the lineup on Wednesday by adding UNLV transfer and former Mountain West Freshman of the Year Blake Biddle.
Biddle will have one year of eligibility with the Razorbacks after spending the last three years at UNLV where he produced a 72.5 stroke average over 33 events (97 rounds) that featured 14 top 10s, 19 top 20s and a pair of tournament victories. A native of St. Charles, Ill., Biddle made his way into the UNLV starting lineup as a freshman and finished off his rookie campaign with an eighth place finish at the NCAA San Diego Regional. Biddle burst onto the scene with five top 10s, seven top 20s and a counting score in 36 of 38 rounds played. His 72.8 stroke average ranked third on the club and 10th in the conference, featuring 14 rounds at even-par or lower as he became the fifth player in Rebel golf history to be named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year. Biddle put any chance of a sophomore slump to rest in a big way in 2011-12, posting six top 10s, highlighted by a win at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, and eight top 20s. The PING All-West Region selection never finished worse that 24th over the 12 events, carding 14 under-par rounds and seven more at even-par to finish with a 71.9 stroke average, which was good for eighth in the Mountain West. Biddle finished No. 72 in the final Golfstat Cup standings and earned his second top 10 finish at an NCAA Regional by tying for seventh place at the 2012 East Regional. This past season, Biddle picked up his second career win at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico State with a career-low 54-hole score of 68(-3)-68(-3)-69(-2)/205(-8). It marked the seventh 54-hole tournament that Biddle has shot even-par or lower in all three rounds. Biddle’s 72.9 stroke average came over 23 rounds at eight events, as he produced a trio of top 10s, including a pair of top 5s. Over his three collegiate seasons, Biddle owns 25 under-par rounds and 17 at even-par out of 97 rounds played. His previously mentioned 14 top 10s and 19 top 20s were aided by a career scoring average of 72.0 in the final round where he’s finished under par in 12 of 33 outings. Biddle will join a Razorback roster that returns four of the five players from this season’s NCAA Championship team that finished 10th. The Razorbacks finished the year ranked No. 8 by Golfstat and No. 11 by Golfweek. With the addition of Biddle, Arkansas now has five players that have earned postseason accolades in their careers, highlighted by a pair of All-American honorees and two others that have earned the Conference Freshman of the Year award in their respective league.
