Razorbacks and Longhorns to Resume Basketball Series

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas and Texas have agreed to a four-year, home-and-home series in basketball, UA Athletic Director Frank Broyles announced on Friday.

The series begins next year in Austin on Dec. 19 and the two teams meet at Texas again during the 2008-09 season. The Longhorns play in Bud Walton Arena in 2007-08 and 2009-10. Dates for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons have not been set.

“We are very pleased to be playing Texas again in basketball,” Broyles says. “It was a great rivalry in the past and will continue to be one. It will allow fans to relive a lot of history between the two programs.”

The two schools have not played since Arkansas was a member of the Southwest Conference in 1991. The Razorbacks won seven of the last eight meetings and lead the all-time series 84-64. UA has a 45-20 advantage in Fayetteville and a 12-3 lead at neutral sites while Texas leads 41-27 in Austin.

Arkansas won the most recent meeting, 120-89, on March 10, 1991, to win the Southwest Conference Tournament championship.
