Razorbacks at Mississippi State

FAYETTEVILLE – Coming off a 2-0 home victory over Kentucky, Arkansas’ soccer team is on the road this week for a pair of Southeastern Conference contests.

The Razorbacks play at Mississippi State on Friday at 7 p.m. and play at Ole Miss at 1 p.m. on Sunday in a game being televised by Fox SportsSouth.

MSU is 7-8 overall and 0-6 in the SEC while Ole Miss is 5-8-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the league. The Razorbacks are 4-8-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the SEC.

Arkansas leads the all-time series with Mississippi State 13-2, including a 5-2 advantage in Starkville. Arkansas won in Fayetteville last year, 1-0.

In Sunday’s win, Kelsey Allison and Allie Chandler scored for the Razorbacks. Allison leads the team with four goals and eight points. Chandler is tied for second on the club with two goals.

"Overall, we’re in a really great place right now as a team," head coach Erin Aubry says. "We had a stretch of five games where we played well, but we didn’t get the result we wanted. Sunday, we finally got the result."

Allison has taken 24 shots this year with 10 on goal and has a .417 shots on goal percentage, which ranks sixth on the team. Among Razorbacks with five or more shot attempts, Ally Atkins (10-14) and Yvonne Desjarlais (5-7) lead the team with a .714 percentage, followed by Erin Moskos (5-8) at .625, Laurel Pastor (19-33) at .576, Andrea Carlson (2-5) at .400 and Allison.

"Kelsey is our player who has emerged this season," Aubry says. "Last year, she would beat herself up when she made mistakes. Now, she’s cool, calm and collected."

In goal, Britni Williams recorded her fourth shutout of the season to extend her school record to 26. She also got the win to become Arkansas’ all-time victories leader with 29. Williams is tied with Carrie Dillsaver (2003-06) for third on the career saves chart with 339.

"She’s extremely athletic," Aubry says. "She has freaky genes that allow her to be big. She’s a strong leader for us in the back as well."

In Sunday’s win over UK, Aubry went with a starting lineup of Pastor, Chandler and Moskos at forward; Allison, Camille Flores and Rachel Carlson at midfielder; Melanie Foncham, Beth McVean, Kailey Anders and Jenn Fryrear at defender; and Williams at goalkeeper.
