Razorbacks distribute school supplies

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s basketball team went to the Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club on Monday afternoon to distribute school supplies to members of the club. Most of the Razorback squad as well as the entire coaching and support staff were in attendance at the event.

"This is a great opportunity to help young people out," Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey said. "We are very fortunate that we are in a position to assist those that are in need and any aid that we can give to the people of Northwest Arkansas, whether they are young or old, is something that we absolutely need to do. It is just a small way for us to give back to a community that gives the Razorbacks so much support in every sport."

The Razorbacks gave backpacks to many of the youth in attendance at the club after a short speech by Pelphrey about the importance of academics. Following the distribution, Pelphrey, players and coaches shot baskets and talked to the kids for an additional 30 minutes.

This is not the first time that members of the Razorbacks have visited the Boys and Girls Club. Junior forward Michael Sanchez spent time at the facility over the summer as a guest speaker at former Razorback and current Chicago Bull, Ronnie Brewer’s summer camp.

The Razorbacks step on the court for their first team practice on Friday, Oct. 15.
