PISTORIA/FLORENCE, Italy – The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team had a long day that ended with a win in their first contest in Italy Monday.
The day begin with breakfast at the Plaza Hotel Lucchsi in Florence and was followed by an hour and a half bus trip to Pisa where the team enjoyed a brisk walk (we were late because of a detour on the highway) to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The freestanding bell tower first opened in 1372 and is the bell tower of the cathedral of city of Pisa.& The team climbed the 296 steps up to the bell tower for some photos and an amazing look at the city.& They spent time in the plaza and returned to Florence in time for their pregame meal around 2:30 p.m.
Arkansas climbed back on the bus shortly after pregame for the hour ride to Pistoria for today’s game (see the game story).& The Razorbacks got their first taste of international rules and an eight-second back court clock – a good precursor to the upcoming 10-second rule change for this season.
Tom Collen started five returners but was able to get everyone into the game for some extended minutes The team travels tomorrow before game two against All Star Vicenza in Mestre, Italy.&
