Collegiate 1,500-meter leader, Stephanie Brown earned the eighth All-American honor of her career with an eighth-place finish in the 1,500 with a time of 4:20.85.
“It’s been an incredible season as a senior,” said Brown. “To get All-American indoors and win a national championship with the distance medley relay team, then pulling off All-American out here in a messy race was just a dream come true. I graduated high school, chose to go to Arkansas and headed into college hoping to compete for a national title one day. I was contending for a national title today and that’s something to be proud of in itself. I’m proud to be a Razorback, it’s been a great career.”
After a clean jump through the first two heights of the day in high jump, Kirsten Hesseltine tied her lifetime PR in dramatic fashion on an impressive third-attempt clearance at 5-10.75. The senior ended the day at 5-10.75, just missing the 6-0 mark for an 11th place finish.
The 4×400-meter relay wrapped up the 2014 NCAA Championships as the final event of the meet. The quartet of Daina Harper, Regine Williams, Taylor Ellis-Watson and Chrishuna Williams clocked 3:31.94 for a sixth-place finish and the final three points for Arkansas.
Heading into the day with 14.5 points and sitting in 14th place, the Razorbacks collected seven more points on the final day of competition to propel them into the No. 9 spot.
“Any time you can finish in the top 10 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, it’s historical moment,” said Head Coach Lance Harter. “Especially with the quality of competition at this national meet. We have the majority of our team coming back next year and the nation was able to see what we’re capable of this week. I’m ecstatic with the team’s performance this year, overall and at the championships. 2014 has been very good to us.
