Razorbacks headed to Norman

FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 20 Arkansas Razorback baseball team earned its 22nd berth to the NCAA Championships on Monday morning, taking the No. 2 seed at the Norman Regional. The Hogs take on No. 3 seed Washington St. in the first round of the regional which begins on Friday, May 29, in Norman, Okla. The remaining two teams in the Norman Regional are No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 4 Wichita St.

Arkansas, just off a 2-2 performance at the SEC Championship Tournament, enters the regional with an overall record of 34-22 and the high of defeating No. 9 Florida two times in Hoover, Ala. The Razorbacks first round match up, Washington St., is 31-23 on the year and look to avenge Arkansas’ sweep of the Cougars in the opening weekend of the season.

The Razorbacks are 33-32 in NCAA Regional tournaments over the years and look to win their second regional since the NCAA moved to a regional-super regional format. The Hogs have played in five College World Series with their last coming in 2004.

Arkansas’ inclusion in the 2009 field of 64 is its eighth consecutive trip to NCAA post season competition. The Razorbacks are 18-16 against teams that were named to the field and posted a 12-12 record against ranked teams this season.
