Razorbacks hit the road for weekend competition

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorback soccer team will travel to Jacksonville, Ala., for the weekend and compete in the Adidas Gamecock Classic with matches scheduled against Jacksonville St. and Samford. Arkansas (2-1) will match up against the host team Friday at 7:30 p.m. at JSU Soccer Field.

Arkansas goes into the match off a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Oral Roberts. The Razorbacks trailed early in the second half, but rallied and took the lead for good on a Kathleen Paulsen bicycle kick in the 81st minute. Arkansas outshot the Golden Eagles, 19-5, in match.

Jacksonville St. (0-2-1) finished last season with a 4-12-1 record and return six starters and 10 letterwinners from last year’s squad. In their last outing, the Gamecocks dropped a 3-0 decision to Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

This will be the second meeting between Arkansas and Jacksonville St. with the Razorbacks holding a 1-0 advantage after last season’s shutout victory in Fayetteville. In that contest, Arkansas got goals from five different players in the 5-0 win, including Camille Flores and Kim Schleif who both posted career-high four-point performances with a goal and two assists each.

Along with Arkansas, Jacksonville St. and Samford, the event will feature the team from Mercer. After its first match, the team will conclude its weekend with a Sunday contest with Samford. That matchup is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
