Razorbacks host home meet

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorback women’s cross country team will open the season with a 4K run at the Arkansas Dual, Fri., Sept. 5, at Fayetteville’s Agri Park.

Denise Bargiachi, Megan Jackson, Christine Kalmer, Dacia (Barr) Perkins, Jillian Rosen, Miranda Walker, Ashley Williams, and Catherine White are scheduled to compete Friday night. Five freshmen are expected to run unattached.

Arkansas, along with Missouri Southern, will open the season with the 4,000-meter race at the Arkansas Dual. The shorter distance will help the newcomers adjust to collegiate competitive running and will give the veterans a solid distance to open up the season with.

Then-freshmen runners Catherine White and Jillian Rosen were the top Arkansas finishers in the first collegiate competition of their careers at the 2007 Arkansas Dual. The first five Razorbacks all ran as a group for the entire 4,000-meter course and finished with times between 13:51 and 13:53.

Arkansas returns 10 student-athletes from the 2007 roster that won the Razorbacks’ 13th SEC XC title and 14th NCAA Regional title.

The Razorbacks will open the schedule with a low-key home meet, travel to San Diego, for the Aztec Invite Sept. 13, venture to Eugene, Ore. for the Dellinger Invitational Oct. 4 and then run the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville (Oct. 18).

The championship season begins with SECs in Starkville, Miss., Mon., Nov. 3, the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Waco, Texas, Nov. 15. It all culminates with the NCAA Championships Mon. Nov. 24.
