Razorbacks host Ole Miss

FAYETTEVILLE– The University of Arkansas softball team will wrap ups it regular-season home schedule when it welcomes Ole Miss for a three-game weekend Southeastern Conference series at Bogle Park.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch for the series finale is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Cox Sports Television (CST) will televise Game One of this weekend’s series between Arkansas and Ole Miss. First pitch of the contest is set for Saturday at 1:07 p.m. from Bogle Park. The game will feature play-by-play by Blair Cartwright and color analysis by Nicki Collen. Check your local listings for channel availability.

Arkansas (26-24, 8-14 SEC) are coming off a non-conference victory over Missouri State on Wednesday night in Springfield, Mo. Senior Sandra Smith led the Razorbacks as she finished the night 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three doubles. Fellow senior Miranda Dixon has a team-best .381 batting average during SEC play. Dixon has 24 hits, six home runs and 23 RBIs in conference matchups. The Edmond, Okla., native is 7-for-10 (.700) during her last four games.

Ole Miss (25-23, 6-15) comes into the weekend following a midweek win over Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark., on Thursday night. Ole Miss has a record of 4-9 away from Ole Miss Softball Complex.

Arkansas leads the all-time series 27-16, including a 14-6 advantage in games played in Fayetteville. Last season, Ole Miss took two of three from the Razorbacks in Oxford. The Rebels also won the series the last two the two teams met in Fayetteville.

At the plate, Ole Miss is led by senior shortstop Lauren Grill. One of seven seniors on this year’s squad, Grill has a .445 batting average, 57 hits, six home runs and 30 RBIs. Next is sophomore Corrine Doomberg with a .372 average and a team-high 58 hits. Sophomore third baseman Cali Overbeck leads the team with seven home runs and 32 RBIs. The Rebels are batting .288 as a team with 26 home runs and 190 RBIs.

In the circle, right-hander Brittany Barnhill leads the team with 120.0 innings pitched. The junior has a record of 9-8 with a 3.27 ERA and 123 strikeouts. Senior Becky Nye has a 7-10 record with a 3.71 ERA in 111.1 innings pitched.

Ole Miss has a 3.40 staff ERA with 282 strikeouts and 199 walks in 317.1 innings pitched. Opposing batters are hitting .235 against the Rebels.

This weekend at Bogle Park is Little League Weekend meaning all players and coaching who wear their jersey will get free admission to Saturday and Sunday’s games. Also, Saturday is Fan Appreciation Day so fans in attendance will receive #1 Hog Fan foam fingers at the gates. Sunday is Senior Day at Bogle Park and presentations will start at 1:30 to honor the five Razorback seniors: Jessica Bachkora, Smith, Miranda Dixon, Brittany Robison and Jessica Waddle.

This weekend’s games will also be broadcast on KXUA Fayetteville (88.3 FM) and ArkansasRazorbacks.com, which will also carry live stats for the Ole Miss series.
