FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas players continue to perform well in summer collegiate baseball leagues taking place throughout the country. Here’s an update on how current Razorbacks are faring so far this summer.

USA Collegiate National Team

The USA Collegiate National Team is 9-1 on the summer, including a win over Japan in the opener of the five-game series between the two teams. The Collegiate National Team has four more games against Japan to close its schedule. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Tuesday, July 5, at 10 a.m. (CT) and 5 p.m., at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. Game four is scheduled for Wednesday, July 6, at 6 p.m. in Kannapolis, N.C., while the series finale will take place Friday, July 8, at 7 p.m. at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.

Sophomore DJ Baxendale has started two games for Team USA this summer. Baxendale has compiled an 0-0 record with a 5.40 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched. Baxendale is scheduled to start one of the games in the series against Japan.

Freshman Dominic Ficociello has played in nine of Team USA’s 10 games, including eight starts, and is hitting .267 with eight RBI and six runs scored. Ficociello is also a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. In the first game against Japan, Ficociello had a clutch two-out, two-RBI single in the seventh inning to tie the game at six. Ficociello also scored the eventual game-winning run in that same inning.

Sophomore Matt Reynolds has played in two games and made one start since joining the Collegiate National Team last weekend. Reynolds is hitting .167 with two RBI and a stolen base. He also played a big role in the series-opening win over Japan, driving in the game’s first run with a RBI single in the second inning. Before joining the CNT, Reynolds was playing with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was hitting .250 with a homer and 10 RBI. He is expected to rejoin the Red Sox with Team USA concludes its schedule.

Freshman Ryne Stanek pitched extremely well for the Collegiate National Team, but was not named to the team’s final roster. In two appearances, including one start, Stanek allowed just one run and struck out 12 in nine innings of work. He started the first game of the Prospect Classic, a two-game series against the USA 18-U National Team, and tossed 6.1 shutout innings with six strikeouts to earn the win. Stanek is expected to spend the rest of the summer pitching with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Cape Cod Baseball League

Freshman Barrett Astin has made four relief appearances for the Wareham Gatemen and has yet to allow a run in 8.1 innings. Astin has a 1-0 record and has allowed just four hits, while striking out four in 8.1 innings.

Redshirt sophomore Trent Daniel has appeared in four games, all out of the bullpen, for the Cotuit Kettleers. Daniel has compiled a 1-0 record with a 4.05 ERA in 6.2 innings. He has given up just three hits and recorded four strikeouts for Cotuit.

Northwoods League

After opening the summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League, sophomore Jimmy Bosco has continued his hot hitting with the La Crosse Loggers. In five games with the Loggers, Bosco is hitting .319 with a homer and six RBI. He began the summer with the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League and hit .357 with two RBI.

Freshman Jacob Rice has played in 12 games with the Duluth Huskies and is hitting .146 with a double, a triple and a RBI.

Freshman Nolan Sanburn has pitched in two games for the Battle Creek Bombers and has a 0-0 record with a 1.29 ERA. Sanburn has given up just one run on one hit and struck out seven in seven innings so far this summer.

Freshman Jake Wise continues to swing a hot bat for Duluth this summer, leading the team with a .410 batting average to go along with a home run and 10 RBI. Wise also leads the team in on-base percentage (.493) and slugging percentage (.525). Wise has also stolen three bases for the Huskies.

California Collegiate League

Redshirt freshman Franco Broyles has started 12 games for the Glendale Angelenos and is hitting .186 with six RBI. Broyles has also stolen nine bases and been caught stealing just three times. Broyles was recently named to the California Collegiate League All-Star Game, which will take place Wednesday, July 13, at 8 p.m. (CT) and be televised on Fox Sports Network.

Sophomore Randall Fant has pitched in four games, including two starts, and has a 0-1 record with a 10.62 ERA for Glendale. Fant has struck out 10 in 9.1 innings pitched.

Freshman Jeff Harvill has made seven apperances out of the bullpen for Glendale and has a 0-0 record with a 3.86 ERA. Harvill has held opposing hitters to a .182 batting average and struck out 10 in 9.1 innings.

Alaska Baseball League

Sophomore Matt Vinson has played in 14 games and made 12 starts for the Glacier Pilots. Vinson is hitting .243 with a homer and six RBI. Vinson leads the Pilots with a .432 slugging percentage and has also stolen three bases.

Coastal Plain League

Freshman Eric Fisher is hitting .267 with two RBI in 11 games, including eight starts, with the Forest City Owls. Fisher has also scored six runs.

Freshman Colby Suggs has pitched in five games for Forest City and has two saves with a 0-0 record and a 7.20 ERA. Suggs has held opposing hitters to a .222 batting average and has struck out six in five innings.

Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League

Redshirt sophomore Kyle Atkins has played in 10 games with the Lexington Hustlers and is hitting .162 with two RBI. Atkins leads the Hustlers with six stolen bases and has yet to be caught stealing.
