FAYETTEVILLE – Collegiate summer baseball leagues are past the midway point of the season. Here’s an update on how current Razorbacks are faring so far this summer.
Cape Cod Baseball League
Freshman Barrett Astin has made five appearances, including one start, for the Wareham Gatemen and has a 1-0 record with a 2.70 ERA. Astin has thrown 13.1 innings, allowing four runs and striking out four.
Redshirt sophomore Trent Daniel pitched in four games, all in relief, for the Cotuit Kettleers. Daniel ended his summer with a 1-0 record and a 4.05 ERA. In 6.2 innings, Daniel allowed three runs on three hits and struck out four.
After joining the USA Collegiate National Team, sophomore Matt Reynolds has returned to the Cape to play for Yarmouth-Dennis. In 10 games with the Red Sox, Reynolds is hitting .242 with a home run and 10 RBI. Reynolds is also a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
Freshman Ryne Stanek has started one game for the Bourne Braves and has a 1-0 record with a 3.60 ERA. In his only start of the summer for Bourne, Stanek allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five in five innings of work. The freshman hurler also has pitched this summer for the USA Collegiate National Team.
Sophomore Jimmy Bosco continues to excel at the plate for the La Crosse Loggers. Bosco is hitting .348 with a homer and 10 RBI in 12 games with the Loggers. He has also shown a good eye at the plate, walking seven times and striking out just four times.
Freshman Jacob Rice has seen time in 18 games for the Duluth Huskies and is hitting .182 with two doubles, two triples and four RBI.
Freshman Nolan Sanburn has pitched in four games for the Battle Creek Bombers, compiling a 0-0 record with a 1.64 ERA. In 11 innings of work, Sanburn has allowed just two runs on five hits, struck out 15 and walked just two.
Freshman Jake Wise continues to lead Duluth in batting average, hitting .373 with a home run and 11 RBI in 20 games played. Wise has also stolen three bases for the Huskies.
California Collegiate League
Redshirt freshman Franco Broyles is hitting .216 with a homer and nine RBI in 16 games played, including 14 starts for the Glendale Angelenos. Broyles is also tied for the team lead with 15 stolen bases and has been caught stealing just three times. Broyles will play in the California Collegiate League All-Star Game, which is on Wednesday, July 13, at 8 p.m. (CT) and will be televised on Fox Sports Network.
Sophomore Randall Fant has pitched in six games, with three starting appearances, for Glendale has a 0-1 record with a 9.39 ERA. Fant has struck out 18 batters in 15.1 innings.
Freshman Jeff Harvill has made nine relief appearances for Glendale and has a 0-0 record with a save and a 3.97 ERA. Harvill has fanned 12 in 11.1 innings and held opposing hitters to a .195 batting average.
Alaska Baseball League
Sophomore Matt Vinson is hitting .254 with a homer and six RBI in 21 games played, including 19 starts, for the Glacier Pilots. Vinson is also 6-for-7 in stolen base attempts for the Pilots.
Coastal Plain League
Freshman Eric Fisher is hitting .250 with three doubles and two RBI in 13 games played, including 10 starts, for the Forest City Owls. Fisher has also scored six runs.
Freshman Colby Suggs has made seven appearances out of the bullpen for Forest City and has a 0-0 record with two saves and a 4.50 ERA. Suggs has struck out seven in his eight innings of work.
Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Atkins has played in 11 games with the Lexington Hustlers and is hitting .200 with two RBI. Atkins leads the Hustlers with nine stolen bases and has not been caught trying to steal.
