Razorbacks meet Ole Miss on Wednesday

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team continues on the road with a Wednesday doubleheader against the University of Mississippi at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m.

The Razorbacks are looking for their first Southeastern Conference win of the season and go into the doubleheader with a 9-20 overall record. Arkansas’ 0-8 start to SEC is comparable to the Rebels 0-6 SEC record and 10-21 overall showing this season.

Both the games against Ole Miss will be televised on Cox Sports with Arkansas’ own Blair Cartwright serving as play-by-play analyst.

The Razorbacks tallied 13 hits against Mississippi State last weekend and a grand slam hit by senior Amanda Caldwell. Caldwell drove in four runs to give the Hogs a 5-2 lead over MSU, but the bomb was not enough to hold off the Bulldogs. MSU came back with a homer of its own and a 6-5 win over Arkansas in game three of the series. Caldwell has seven RBI in 12 appearances this season.

Ole Miss comes into the mid-week games searching for its first SEC win as well, after being swept by No. 2 Florida over the weekend. Senior Becca Carden freshman and Jayme Gee pace the Razorbacks this season. Carden boasts a .333 batting average and has 16 RBI in 2011, while Gee matches that batting average in SEC play. She has been stellar behind the plate as well with a .974 fielding percentage while leading the team in putouts.

Ole Miss senior Brittany Barnhill has a Rebel-high 16 RBI and three home runs this season. Senior Lindsey Perry leads the Rebels in the circle with a 7-3 record and a 2.85 ERA.
