Razorbacks rank among national leaders

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas ranks 15th among the nation’s top-selling institutions and manufacturers the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) announced this week. Arkansas moved up one spot from its 16th place ranking last quarter to 15th for the year-end tally that runs from July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009. All revenue generated from the University of Arkansas’ licensing program goes to support the Razorbacks’ 11 women’s sport programs. “The University of Arkansas’ Classic Razorback continues to be among the most recognizable and popular marks in the nation,” Arkansas Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “Through our partnership with CLC, the official and authorized use of our trademarks provides vital support and resources for our women’s athletic programs and student-athletes. We are committed to the growth and expansion of our licensing program and appreciate the continued support of the Razorback fans.” The Razorbacks experienced a seven percent royalty increase in 2008-09 from the previous fiscal year. In addition, Arkansas produced its highest royalty collection in program history at $2,233,578, finishing above the $2 million mark for the second consecutive year. The increase follows a solid financial and marketing commitment from Arkansas’ top corporate partners including Knights Apparel, adidas and EA Sports. In addition, the women’s apparel category grew 57 percent thanks, in part, to the Victoria’s Secret/PINK program. “The 2009-10 fiscal year ahead will be challenging as the economy and many top retailers continue to struggle in the marketplace, however, we are optimistic that our continued efforts will promote growth,” Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Licensing Matt Shanklin said. “CLC will continue to assist Arkansas in managing its program strategically and will continue to evaluate opportunities to grow the Razorback brand across different channels, product categories, and consumers.” Shanklin is in his 11th year coordinating the Razorbacks’ licensing program. The Southeastern Conference was well represented with eight programs in the top 15 of the institution rankings, including four of the top five this year.
