Razorbacks ranked No. 20 by CSCAA

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team is ranked No. 20 nationally in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll.

The CSCAA ranking of 20th is a team-best for the 2011-12 season. The Razorbacks’ program-best ranking under head coach Jeff Poppell is 17th, achieved late in the fall last season after Arkansas won the Purdue Invitational.

The Razorbacks are one of six Southeastern Conference teams ranked nationally. Having concluded one of the program’s toughest fall schedules in recent memory, Arkansas has already competed against six teams ranked in the top 25.

Arkansas started the season with competitive meets against SEC foes and national powers Auburn and Florida, clocking a number of top ten times in the country. The Razorbacks then travelled to Houston, Texas for the Rice Invitational, and took first place by 297 points over a field of four teams, breaking seven Rice facility records. Arkansas wrapped up its fall schedule with the Tennessee Invitational, finishing fourth in a field of seven teams including four ranked nationally.

Arkansas is in the midst of a break between its first and second semester meet schedules. The Razorbacks open up their 2012 slate Jan. 14 with a double dual meet against Penn State and Navy in University Park, Penn. For more information about Razorback swimming and diving, please log on to
