FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team earned a No. 23 ranking in the latest Division 1 College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll.
The ranking was released after the Razorbacks traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Jan. 11 to face Kentucky and Alabama in a double-dual meet.&
Standout performances included event wins by sophomore Anna Mayfield (San Antonio, Texas) in the 200-yard backstroke and by senior Kesha Naylor (Saskatchewan, Canada) on the three-meter springboard. Junior Nikki Daniels (Wichita, Kan.) earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with NCAA ‘B’ cut times of 1:02.03 and 2:15.52, respectively.
Poll rankings are based on team performances in dual meets and invites, and the voting committee includes nine CSCAA-member coaches and one media member. Arkansas represents one of seven SEC schools included in the national poll.
The Razorbacks will return to competition Saturday when the team faces Clemson and Rice in a double-dual meet at the Arkansas Natatorium at noon. Admission to the meet is free, and all attendees will be able to participate in a raffle at the door to win two tickets to the men’s basketball game against Auburn at Bud Walton Arena at 5 p.m.
