Razorbacks recognized in AP Preseason Poll

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team earned seven votes in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 poll it was announced today.

The Razorbacks, who finished 18-14 last season and advanced to the third round of the WNIT postseason tournament, return nine letterwinners from a year ago. In addition Arkansas returns the services of all three Southeastern Conference honorees from 2008-09.

The AP Poll was released Friday and is comprised of a vote from a national media panel.

“Of course it’s great to be mentioned in the preseason poll,” Arkansas head coach Tom Collen said. “I hope we can use this as a starting place and improve with each game as the season progresses.”

Defending national champion Connecticut is at the top of the poll earning 1000 points. The Huskies received all 40 first-place votes and are ranked in the preseason top spot for the seventh time in school history.

Stanford, Ohio State, Notre Dame and North Carolina round out the top five picks.

The SEC was represented with Tennessee checking in at No. 8, LSU and No. 9, Georgia at No. 21 and Vanderbilt at No. 22. Mississippi State, Auburn and Florida also received votes.

The Razorbacks host Northeastern State in an exhibition game Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena. It is “Bring A Guest” to the game night in which each paying adult will receive one free admission for a guest.
