Razorbacks start off practice week

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football team began the new week of drills Monday with a set of two-a-day practices in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. After a successful scrimmage Saturday, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee knew it was important to use what was seen by the UA coaching staff as an instrumental way to begin a next stanza of practices.

"We spent all day yesterday in the film room studying," Coach McGee said. "That’s what it’s about in training camp. There were a lot of teaching opportunities from the video. We are better today than we were on Saturday."

Coming off of the weekend scrimmage, Coach McGee explained he’s found confidence in his team’s younger receivers. He also noted that dual practice days may wear on the Arkansas squad now, but they will be stronger because of them when the 2010 season begins.

"This is when you have to physically and mentally fight yourself," Coach McGee said. "That’s what we are going through right now. We’re tough enough to get out of it."

Known as the "dog days of August", Coach McGee explained that all teams have tough fall camps, but the Razorbacks are a prideful bunch of football players and are playing through with enthusiasm. Practicing on the same field that some Arkansas home football games are played also helps, Coach McGee stated.

"I can tell they take a lot of pride in coming out to practice on our home field," Coach McGee said. "I can tell they had their energy back and we had a better day."

Arkansas practices once tomorrow, with the session set to begin at 9 a.m. Razorback fans are invited to attend practices through Aug. 21 (excluding Aug. 19). For more information on UA football, please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
