FAYETTEVILLE- The Arkansas Razorback softball team finished its weekend with a 4-3 win over Jackson State to be named Champions of the 2012 Arkansas Fastpitch Invitational. That win improves its overall record to 11-2 and 5-0 at home, which is the best home start since the 2008 season."I am very pleased to go 5-0 on the weekend," said Head Coach Mike Larabee. "It is always nice to play in a Championship game and come out on top."Arkansas got on the board first in the bottom of the second starting with a double from sophomore Jennifer Rambo. Sophomore, Jayme Gee brought Rambo home with a double giving the Razorbacks a 1-0 lead.

Freshman, Sierra Bronkey led off in the bottom of the third collecting a double. After a single from sophomore, Ashley Martindale and an error from Jackson State, pinch runner Amanda Summerford was brought in for a score, giving Arkansas to 2-0 lead. Arkansas loaded the bases in both the second and third innings and was unable to bring home more runs. Jackson State was quiet on offense until the top of the seventh, when its third baseman doubled followed by a single from its first baseman. Both runners eventually scored tying the game at two. Arkansas was unable to get a hit in the bottom of the seventh, taking the game to extra innings. In the top of the eighth Jackson State scored one run giving them the lead 3-2.The Razorbacks were clutch in the bottom of the eighth when Martindale reached first base off an error from the Tigers, which also allowed for Rambo who was placed on second to score and tie the game at three. Gee stepped up to the plate and smashed a double to left field bringing home Martindale and ending the game.Junior, Chelsea Cohen recorded her sixth win pitching all seven innings, throwing six strikeouts and allowing no walks. With this win, Cohen passes her career wins, giving her 11 and making her 6-2 for the 2012 season.Overall, for the weekend, the Razorbacks went 5-0 scoring 32 runs and averaging .315 at the plate. As a team Arkansas collected 12 doubles, three triples, three homeruns (two from sophomore Amanda Geile) and 25 RBI.Freshman Devon Wallace was strong, yet patient at the plate this weekend having an on base percentage of .700, while also batting .455. Geile and sophomore Clarisa Navarro combined for a total of 13 RBI, and 13 hits. Cohen went 3-0 on the weekend with an ERA of .64 bringing her overall ERA to 1.01."Chelsea was solid for us all weekend," said Larabee. "She was in control and only gave up one walk in 22.0 innings pitched."The Razorbacks will be back in action next Friday when they take on the Drake bulldogs at 5 p.m. Arkansas will also host the Woo Pig Classic next Saturday and Sunday bringing Butler, IUPUI and Drake to Fayetteville.
