Razorbacks take on Commodores, Saturday

The Razorbacks ended a two game skid on Tuesday night when they defeated the Auburn Tigers at Bud Walton Arena, 73-64, but must take the show on the road once again on Saturday, Jan. 29, when it travels to Nashville, Tenn., to play the No. 19 Vanderbilt Commodores. Tip time for the Fox Sports broadcast of the game is scheduled for 5 p.m. central.

Arkansas (13-6, 3-3 SEC) has had its struggles on the road this season, but is looking to put those behind it when it takes on Vanderbilt (15-4, 3-2 SEC). The Razorbacks played a very good game on the road at South Carolina and look to repeat that effort in Nashville against a very talented Vanderbilt squad that entered the national rankings the past couple of weeks and ranks No. 19 in the Associated Press and No. 22 in the Coaches’ polls.

The Hogs hope that the continued improvement of sophomore Marshawn Powell continues to go along with shot blocker and inside presence Delvon Johnson. The pair combined for 23 points and 17 rebounds against Auburn which included Powell’s second double-double of the season, 13 points and a career high 11 rebounds. Arkansas’ all around game was very good against the Tigers as the Razorbacks also got 32 points out of junior Rotnei Clarke and sophomore Julysses Nobles who each scored 16 points and combined for 11 rebounds.

Vanderbilt has four players that average double digit scoring led by John Jenkins 18.8 points per game and 41 percent three-point shooting. Inside presence Jeffery Taylor averages 15.3 points and center Festus Ezeli ranks third at 12.7 points and 6.1 rebounds. The Commodores are 11-0 at home this year with victories over Ole Miss, Georgia and a ranked St. Mary’s squad to name a few. The Commodores two SEC losses have come on the road at Tennessee and at South Carolina.

The Arkansas-Vanderbilt game will be broadcast on the radio across the Razorback Sports Network from IMG College with Chuck Barrett and Rick Schaeffer giving the call. The game will also be carried live on TV by Fox Sports with Dave Neal and Barry Booker calling the action.

Following the contest with Vanderbilt, Arkansas returns to Bud Walton Arena for a pair of games against Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m. and Ole Miss on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m.
