FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football team participated in the 2012 Northwest Arkansas Heart Walk on Saturday morning at Arvest Ballpark.
The Razorbacks walked in memory of the late Garrett Uekman, who was a redshirt freshman tight end who passed away on Nov. 20. The team helped kick off the event by Calling the Hogs along with Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long. After a brief ceremony, they joined other participants in walking a loop on the streets around the ballpark.
"This morning, our Razorback football student-athletes joined with others in our community to honor the memory of Garrett Uekman at the Northwest Arkansas Heart Walk," Long said. "It was an opportunity to show our support for Danny and Michelle and the entire Uekman family while also raising awareness of cardiovascular disease, an issue that affects so many of our friends and family. I appreciate our football student-athletes and everyone who participated who helped give back to our community in honor of Garrett."
The Heart Walk is an event by the American Heart Association that raises money to fund research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association. The association advocates for better health, improving patient care, raising awareness and protecting the future by building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
