FAYETTEVILLE — Living up to its team motto, "We Are Relentless," the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team (8-0) has relentlessly harassed its&opponents all season long and&now has the NCAA’s No. 1-ranked scoring defense to show for it.

Allowing an average of just 40.5 points per game, the Razorbacks currently&lead the country for scoring defense in the second reporting period of the 2013-14 season. Oklahoma State ranks second allowing&48.1 ppg, while South Carolina comes in at No. 3 giving up just 48.4 ppg.

The Razorbacks have held opponents to 47 points or less in seven of the first eight games this season, including limiting Binghamton to 23 points (11/30), Oral Roberts to 33 points (11/13) and Southeast Missouri to 37 points (11/29).

Arkansas is also third in the NCAA and leading the SEC for field-goal percentage defense (29.2 percent), due in large part to holding Binghamton to just 17.4 percent shooting–a program-best mark–during its 72-23 win&in the New Mexico Thanksgiving Tournament championship game last Saturday.

The Razorbacks also held Binghamton to just nine first-half points, which ranked second all-time in program history for points allowed in a half.

Ranked No. 7 in the NCAA for turnover margin (9.63), the Razorbacks have forced their opposition into an average of 22.5 turnovers a contest, including a season-high 36 mistakes by Oral Roberts (11/13).

Arkansas is the only team in the SEC that ranks in the top three for scoring defense (40.5 ppg), blocked shots (2nd, 5.8 bpg) and steals (3rd, 10.3 spg).&The Razorbacks have posted 10+ steals in three games (ORU, Furman, MTSU).

The Razorbacks return to the road and travel next to&face Kansas (4-3) on Dec. 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday inside Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan.
