FAYETTEVILLE — The No. 25 University of Arkansas women’s basketball team continues Southeastern Conference play Sunday hosting Mississippi State in a 2 p.m. tip in Bud Walton Arena.

Arkansas, 14-2 overall and 1-2 in SEC play, are comingg off a great defensive effort at Florida Thursday and hope to carry that momentum into Sunday’s game with State (13-3, 0-2 SEC).

"Our defense was good at Florida and that is something we need to bring to this game as well," Arkansas head coach Tom Collen said.

Arkansas enters the game with one of the best defenses in both the SEC and NCAA and adds in the hot shooting of a pair of freshmen but is searching for some balance in Sunday’s game.

Freshmen Jessica Jackson and McKenzie Adams both dropped in career-best 23 point performances against the Gators. Jackson averages 15.8 points per game ranking seventh in the conference. The highest-ranking freshman in the SEC and has scored in double figures in 15 of Arkansas’ 16 games this year including 10 in a row.

Adams has been good from distance this year year and ranks eighth in the NCAA and first in the SEC in three-point field goal percentage with a 46.8 mark.

State enters the game coming off a bye week. They have have two conference losses to Florida and Auburn and a non-conference loss to Middle Tennessee State, a team the Razorbacks defeated this season.

The Bulldogs have three players in double figures paced by Martha Alwal with a team-leading 16.4 ppg and 8.4 rpg this season. Kendra Grant (13.6 ppg) and Dominique Dillingham (11.1 ppg) are also in double figures this year.

The Bulldogs also score nearly 80 points a game, something the Razorback defense will have to account for.

"We know they can score and score fast," Collen said. "Our defense has been good all season and we need to step up and again, have a good defensive performance to give the offense a chance."
