FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s golf team opens the season ranked No. 3 in the first Golfstat.com poll. The ranking comes as the Razorbacks travel to San Antonio, Texas, this week for final fall event, the Alamo Invitational.

Arkansas trails top-ranked Southern California and Duke in the Golfstat.com poll and is the highest-ranking Southeastern Conference team. Five other SEC teams start the year in the top-25.

Seniors Regina Plasencia and Gabriela Lopez rank 11th and 12th, respectively, as individuals. Junior Summar Roachell checks in at No. 49, followed by No. 52 Alana Uriell. Freshman Cara Gorlei is 116th this week.

The Razorback lineup gets a new look this weekend at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club for the Alamo Invitational. Lopez will not travel with the team, instead taking part in the LPGA’s Stage II of Qualifying School in Florida. Plasencia, Roachell, Uriell and Gorlei will be joined by junior Samantha Marks this week.

Arkansas takes on another solid field featuring the host UTSA Roadrunners, along with No. 67 Baylor, No. 16 Florida, No. 36 Houston, No. 35 LSU, No. 69 Mississippi State, No. 59 Oklahoma, SMU, No. 53 TCU, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 73 Texas State, No. 29 Texas Tech, No. 63 Tulane and No. 88 Wisconsin.

Arkansas is making its third appearance at this event. The Razorbacks finished third in 2013, with former Razorback Emily Tubert tying for fifth place to lead the team. Last season, Arkansas was second shooting a 16-under 848. Lopez finished third overall.
