@RazorbackWTEN Falls To No. 11 Texas A&M
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 46 Arkansas women’s tennis team dropped its final home match of the spring season as the No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Razorbacks, 5-2, at the Billingsley Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss the Razorbacks fall to 14-12 overall and 3-8 in conference play, while the Aggies improve to 12-4 on the season and 9-2 in SEC competition.
Georgia got on the board first in doubles, as the No. 56 duo of Eva Paalma and Rachel Pierson defeated Shannon Hudson Yuliya Lysa 8-0 at court one and the No. 80-ranked tandem of Saska Gavrilovska and Rutuja Bhosale won over Flavia Araujo and Sasha Shkorupeieva 8-3 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for A&M.
In singles action, the Bulldogs won matches at No. 4, No. 6 and No. 3 to secure the win. No. 77 Saska Gavrilovska defeated Sasha Shkorupeieva 6-1, 6-1, Anna Mamalat took down Flavia Araujo 6-3, 6-4 and Ines Deheza got by Makenzie Craft 6-3, 7-6 (6-2).
The Razorbacks picked up a pair of huge singles victories when Shannon Hudson and Yuliya Lysa defeated a pair of nationally ranked opponents. Lysa defeated #32 Rachel Pierson 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) and Hudson upset #57 Rutuja Bhosale 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). Lysa’s win was her team-leading 16th of the season, while Hudson’s victory gives her 10 during the spring season.
The last match to finish on the afternoon was at court five. Eva Paalma (A&M) got by Mia Jurasic (ARKW) 6-0, 5-7, 6-4.
The Razorbacks will return to action this weekend when they hit the road for the final matches of the regular season. Arkansas will battle Alabama on Friday, April 10, before heading to Auburn to face the Tigers on Sunday, April 12.
