BOULDER, Colo. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team rounded out its second day of competition at the Colorado Invitational on Friday in Boulder, Colo. Freshman Peyton Jennings led the way for the Razorbacks as she collected a 6-4, 6-0 win over Yana Golovkina of Southern Illinois in the opening round of singles play.
“We found the going tougher today overall,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Obviously the highlight was Peyton both in singles and doubles as she was sharp and led by example. We came here for a lot of matches and tomorrow will provide us with exactly what we need.”
Jennings and sophomore Elly Fryberger were narrowly defeated in their doubles match against Utah’s Luisa Rosa and Sarah Richter that was decided in a tiebreaker, 8-7(5). Juniors Flavia Araujo and Nicole Breaux came up short in another tight doubles match, 8-6.
Arkansas was defeated in its other three singles matches on the day.
Day three of the Colorado Invitational resumes Saturday morning as the Razorbacks will compete in two rounds of doubles as well as a round of singles.
