COLUMBIA, Mo. — The No. 55 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team fell to host team Missouri, 4-0, in the first round of the 2014 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.
After the Tigers (8-20, 1-12 SEC) won the doubles point and took an early 1-0 lead over the Razorbacks (13-16, 2-11 SEC), they went on to win three straight singles matches and clinched the 4-0 win.
Sarah McLean was looking to get UA on the board at No. 3 singles and help swing the momentum, but her match would be left unfinished after MU clinched. McLean cruised to a 6-0 win in the first set, fell 2-6 in the second set, but then was tied 4-4 in the third frame.
“There were a lot of things to be encouraged by today and other things that will need to be worked on,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “These kind of matches have to stick with you. They better you. From some of the things I saw today, I know that there are better days ahead for the Hogs.”
