Red-White Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Stan Heath:

“Overall, I was pleased with our performance. I saw a lot of positives, but we still have a lot to clean up. With the way the teams were split up, I wanted to see how Sean (McCurdy) and Dontell (Jefferson) handled the pressure from Gary (Ervin) and Eric (Ferguson). I thought they both handled the ball well.

“Ronnie (Brewer) played very well. I was surprised at how many tough shots he hit. I would like to get him some easier baskets throughout the year. He was able to help his teammates out as well.

“Preston Cranford was the surprise of the day. He shot the ball very well like we knew he could. He also created space for his teammates.

“From an offensive standpoint, we had a lot of points and a good field goal percentage. But as a coach, I have to wonder where was the defense?”

Forward Charles Thomas

“Coach (Dan) Hipsher told me to take the ball to the hole and finish strong, and that’s what I tried to do. Right now, I’m really just enjoying the game and playing hard.”

Guard Ronnie Brewer

“We’ve improved a whole lot (from last year). Steven Hill is being more aggressive, blocking shots, rebounding and taking the ball to the basket, and that’s helping us out a lot. I’m just trying to be aggressive to be a spark for my team.”

Guard Sean McCurdy

“I thought I played solid. Eric (Ferguson) and Gary (Ervin) provide unbelievable pressure on defense. It was amazing (to play in front of the Arkansas fans). It was just great to be out there on the court with my teammates.”

Center Darian Townes

“I’ve got to cut down my turnovers when they double me in the post. Charles (Thomas) went at us in the first half, and we eventually slowed him down but their guards got on fire. The team has a lot of stuff to work on. We’ve got to cut out our turnovers and take care of the ball.”
