Redlicki Back At The Top

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Four years ago, Mike Redlicki was playing at one of the highest levels of American tennis. He won the main doubles draw at the 2012 USTA Boys 18 National Championship, securing a bid in the 2012 US Open doubles main draw, where he advanced to the second round.

Coming out of high school, Redlicki was rated as the No. 5 prospect in the Tennis RPI rankings and No. 7 by TennisRecruiting.net. As a freshman at Duke, he qualified for the NCAA Championships in both singles and doubles, peaking at No. 14 in the singles rankings and No. 9 in the doubles rankings.

He played one more season at Duke before taking a year off from tennis and transferring to Arkansas for the 2015-16 season. During his first season back on the court, he earned All-SEC First Team honors and qualified for the NCAA Championships in both singles and doubles.

His success last season, finishing the season ranked No. 25 in the nation, put him in position to compete at the American Invitational this weekend and places him back among the nation’s best.

“Having the opportunity to go back to Flushing and play in this Collegiate Invitational gives me confidence,” Redlicki said. “After my year off at Duke, to be able to get back to the highest level of college tennis by being invited to an event like this motivates me to keep working because I want to be a pro tennis player someday.”

Today, Redlicki not only returns to familiar courts at the USTA National Tennis Center — he’s also embracing new opportunities in his comeback to one of the highest levels of American tennis.

“Once upon a time, after my year off at Duke, I didn’t think tennis was going to be in my life anymore,” Redlicki said. “And now, for someone to tell me that I can come back to Flushing and play against the nation’s elite, I’m definitely appreciative of this experience. I’m doing everything I can to be prepared and make the most of it.”
