Redlicki Joins Salazar In ITA National Indoor Field

USTA/ITA National Indoor Championship Selections

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Arkansas will be one of six schools to have multiple players in the singles draw at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in early November, as Mike Redlicki was one of six players to receive an at-large selection this week.

Jose Salazar had previously gained automatic entry into the 32-player field with his ITA Central Regional title Monday, defeating Minnesota’s Matic Spec, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, in the final.

“We are very proud of Jose and Mike to gain entry to the ITA/USTA National Indoor Championships,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “Both guys are playing well and excited to be playing in the event. Both are elite players who have certainly earned the honor. Arkansas is proud to be one of only six schools in the nation to have multiple players in the 32-player event.”

For Redlicki, the No. 11 player in the nation, it will be his second trip to Flushing Meadows this fall, having been one of eight American college tennis players selected to play in the American Collegiate Invitational in early September.

Redlicki owns a 12-2 record this fall, winning the Southern Intercollegiate title, advancing to the Round of 16 at the ITA All-American and, most recently, advancing to the semifinals at the ITA Central Regional Championship. He also has a 6-1 record against ranked opponents so far this year.

Salazar, the No. 45 player in the nation, won six matches in four days last week, including wins over No. 106 Florin Bragusi (Oklahoma) and No. 29 Julian Cash (Oklahoma State) to capture the ITA Central Regional title. Salazar, who owns a 10-2 record this fall, also advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA All-American, defeating No. 17 Andre Goransson (California) in the Round of 64.

Redlicki and Salazar are two of eight SEC players in the field. Joining Arkansas with multiple players in the 32-player field are California, Ohio State, Texas, Virginia and Wake Forest.

The tournament runs Nov. 3-6 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York, the site of the U.S. Open, and also serves as the culmination of the fall college tennis season.
