Regional meet up next for Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE – With a trip to the NCAA Championship meet on the line, the University of Arkansas men’s cross country team will race Saturday, Nov. 13, at the South Central Regional. The men’s 10K race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (CT) start on the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas.

"These races are coming up fast now," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "We have to be in the top two to qualify for the national meet and that’s our plan to make sure we’re one of those two teams. We have to take care of business because it’s like a preliminary run. We have to do what it takes to get the final and we have to do with it with good intelligence, making sure we don’t overextend ourselves but at the same time, get the job done."

The Razorbacks enter the weekend as the No. 11 team in the nation, according to the most recent release of the USTFCCCA poll. As it has all season, Arkansas holds the top stop in the South Central regional rankings. As part of the South Central region, the Razorbacks are joined by teams from Arkansas, Louisiana, and east and central Texas. Arkansas is followed in the regional rankings by Texas, Lamar, McNeese State and Arkansas-Little Rock.

The Razorbacks have 30 NCAA regional championships to their credit, including last year’s team title. Arkansas runners have also won 19 individual titles, spread out among 16 student-athletes. Dorian Ulrey won the 10K race last season. Three former Razorbacks-Eric Henry (1990, 1991), Godfrey Siamusiye (1995, 1996) and Michael Power (1998, 1999)-won two regional titles during their respective careers.

At last season’s regional, Arkansas ran to a first-place finish to punch its ticket to the 2009 NCAA Championships. The Razorbacks totaled 47 team points and were followed by second-place Texas. Ulrey and Solomon Haile posted a 1-2 finish to pace the team and Lane Boyer crossed the line in seventh place for Arkansas’ third top-10 finisher.

Saturday’s race will be the first for the cross country team since capturing the 2010 Southeastern Conference title, the 18th SEC crown in program history and the 35th overall. Race timing and results can be found at, and for complete coverage and more information about the Razorbacks, log on to
