Ribbon-cutting ceremony

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ soccer team is set to move into its expanded and renovated locker room facility at Razorback Field.

The project is near completion and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday afternoon at Razorback Field.

The expansion added more than 3,900 square feet to the existing 3,100-square foot structure.

Additions include an expanded and re-modeled training room with a rehab area, a new locker room for the Razorbacks, a team lounge connected to a team meeting area, two private meeting rooms and a storage area.

"Even before we started working on an overall facilities master plan, it was clear that we needed to address facility needs within our soccer program," Arkansas Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long says. "Our soccer facilities lagged behind other athletic facilities on our campus as well as those at other institutions we compete with in the Southeastern Conference. It is important that we continue to improve our Olympic Sport venues and particularly those utilized by our women’s programs."

The existing building included home and visiting locker rooms, a training room, a coaches’ office, showers, a concession stand and public restrooms. The visiting locker room, concession stand and public restrooms remain.

The architecture design was a joint project between Arkansas’ Facilities Management Department and Polk, Stanley, Wilcox of Little Rock. The general contractor currently working on the project is Milestone Construction Company of Springdale.

"The success of our athletic program in the last three years has allowed us to allocate a portion of our operating funds to make some much needed projects like this one a reality," Long says. "We are always striving to meet the needs of our student-athletes as well as maintain our strong commitment to Title IX and gender equity."

Razorback Field was the only on-campus playing venue that had not undergone enhancements or significant renovations in the previous three years.
