Robinson’s five-RBI game lifts UA to win

FAYETTEVILLE – Kyle Robinson hit his eighth home run of the season and tied a career-high with five RBI to lead No. 23 Arkansas to a 6-2 win over UT Martin on Tuesday night at Baum Stadium.

Arkansas improves to 34-17 overall on the season, while UT Martin is now 18-32. The Razorbacks close the non-conference portion of their regular season schedule with a 21-3 record.

Robinson was the star of the night at the plate for Arkansas, going 2-for-3 with his eighth home run of the season and a career-high tying five RBI. Robinson also had five RBI earlier in the season in a win against Delaware State on February 20. Tim Carver added a pair of hits and scored a run. Dominic Ficociello extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 1-for-3 with a RBI. Collin Kuhn and James McCann each had a hit and two runs scored.

UT Martin was led at the plate by Jordan Owen, who had two hits and scored a run. Chase Okey drove in two runs and went 1-for-4.

Arkansas starter Brandon Moore (4-1) earned the win on the mound, allowing two run on three hits and striking out two in three innings of work.

Three Razorback relievers combined to throw six innings of shutout relief. Cade Lynch pitched three shutout innings, while Colby Suggs tossed two scoreless innings. Nolan Sanburn closed the game with as ninth.

UT Martin starter Willie Frederick (3-2) took the loss, allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits with two strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

Arkansas jumped on the Skyhawks in the first inning, scoring three times. Bo Bigham walked to lead off the inning and Kuhn followed with a single to center. Bigham slipped rounding second and was thrown out trying to get back to the second base bag. McCann then hit a single to center field to advance Kuhn to second. After a foul out by Ficociello, Robinson blasted a three-run home run to left field, his eighth round-tripper of the season.

The Skyhawks got two runs back in the third. Owen and Cory Stooksbury started the inning with consecutive singles. A sacrifice bunt by Erik Larsen moved both runners into scoring position. After Trey Karlen struck out for the second out of the inning, Chase Okey lined a single into left-center field, scoring both runners to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Razorbacks tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. With one out, Carver reached on an infield single and then stole second with two outs. Back-to-back walks to Kuhn and McCann loaded the bases with two outs. Carver crossed the plate after Ficociello was hit by a pitch. Robinson drove in two more runners with a single to right center field, plating Kuhn and McCann.

UT Martin was able to get two runners on with nobody out in the top of the ninth, but Sanburn worked out of the jam, striking out Larsen looking to end the game.

Arkansas closes the regular season this weekend with a three-game series against Ole Miss. Game times are set for 6:35 p.m. on Thursday, 6 p.m. on Friday and 2:05 p.m. on Saturday. Friday’s game will be televised on CSS and CST, while Saturday’s game will be shown on CST.
