Salazar Picks Up National ITA Honor

ITA Release

TEMPE, Ariz. – Just hours after finding out his NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship draw, senior Jose Salazar picked up his second Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) postseason award, this time the National Most Improved Senior Player.

“Jose is such a hard worker who loves tennis,” said head coach Andy Jackson. “Coach Briceno and he really work well together and they both deserve big credit. The Razorbacks are proud.”

After going 15-7 last spring, Salazar improved his mark to 19-5 this year. Holding a 30-8 overall record for the 2016-17 season, the Tenerife, Spain, native is 9-4 against ranked opponents, 7-1 this spring. Salazar is also 8-2 away from home this season.

He is currently the 39th-ranked singles player in the country and a part of the sixth-ranked doubles pairing with fellow senior Mike Redlicki.

Following the Southeastern Conference Tournament, Salazar was named first-team All-SEC and the ITA Central Regional Most Improved Senior Player.

Salazar will wrap up his Razorback career this week at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Georgia, where he will face off against 13th-ranked Skander Mansouri of Wake Forest on Wednesday at 2 p.m. CT. On Thursday, he and Redlicki will take on 16th-ranked Herkko Pollanen and Mikael Torpegaard of Ohio State in the first round of the doubles championship.
