FAYETTEVILLE — Based on her performance last weekend at the Greater Louisville Classic, Andrina Schlaepfer was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office. This marks the second weekly honor for Schlaepfer who was previously recognized the week following her collegiate-debut performance at the adidas/UCI invitational. “Andrina is a super talent that ran a great race for us,” head coach Lance Harter said. “She is very gifted and a great competitor. She runs with and has a really unique perspective in regards to keeping her poise and composure throughout the race.” In her second collegiate race, Schlaepfer was the second runner in Arkansas’ lineup and finished 13th overall at the Greater Louisville Classic with a 5K time of 17:06.70, more than 16 seconds faster than her season-opening time. She helped the Razorbacks to a third-place finish in a field that featured seven ranked teams and seven teams from the SEC. Schlaepfer was the top freshman performer in the race. Through the first month of the 2012 cross country season, the Solothurn, Switzerland, native owns the best freshman 5K time in the conference and currently ranks seventh overall at the distance. In the Oct. 2 release of the USTFCCCA national poll, Arkansas slips to No. 11, down one spot from its position last week. The Razorbacks are the highest-ranked SEC team, slotted just ahead of defending conference champion Vanderbilt. Arkansas also retains its spot atop the rankings in the South Central region.
